Have you ever started listening to a book and felt like the author was speaking directly to you? That is exactly how I felt listening to Fired Up. John shares the importance of being your authentic true self with the people you are leading and wanting to join you. When people feel like they know you on a personal level they also begin to trust you. John expressed there is nothing more powerful than a great story. Stories are a form of persuasion and if you want to create a movement tell a story. Stories link our hearts.
Imagine you are a salesperson, and you sell clothing at a boutique, when customers come in you answer their questions, you show them new items that have arrived, you help them pair items together.
Now, think about sitting with your best friend and you are sharing with her the new merchandise you just got in at your boutique. You are excited about the new trendy items, the colors that have arrived, you share your excitement as you opened the boxes and pulled out each item. You describe in detail the quality of the clothing, maybe the way they felt when you tried them on. You share how incredible the store looks with so many new, fun pieces of clothing on display. As you are sharing in detail your friend feels like she is right there with you and can’t wait to visit your boutique and check out all your new inventory.
When you tell a story you are producing an experience, when you give a presentation, you are producing information. You can feel a difference in the two.
I also liked how John described our thoughts are like a blueprint of our mind, with the purpose of making what we think a reality.
Our thoughts are powerful, what we think we believe. We get to decide what we focus on and what meaning we give to the events that happen in and around us.
We are not always in control of the things that happen to us, but we are in control of how we respond to those things. It’s usually easier to spot the bad, but if you look hard enough you can find something good in every situation.
If you are ready to be inspired to live your real, true, authentic self you will enjoy Fired Up.
